Nancy Holder on “Is it harder to write the first book as opposed to the second (or third, or fourth) or does it depend on the content of what you are writing?”

It is always hard to write a book. But it’s almost always fun. Kind of like being a mom. Some books are more complicated than others, though, and I might feel a little overwhelmed by all the sub-plots and “mini-adventures” of some of the characters. So I have to remember that I’m writing part of the story every day, not all of the story in one day.

Nancy Holder on “What hobbies do you have?”

I have the most adorable Cardigan Welsh corgi, and I spend a lot of time walking him and playing with him.  His name is Panda.  As I write this, he is running around in a little circle chasing his tail.  This weekend, I’ll take him to the snow with my daughter.  He loves to roll around in the snow!

Nancy Holder on “Have you ever just wanted to give up?”

Of course.  I get knocked down, but I get up again…  I get tired and frustrated just like everyone else.  The trick is to look at the big picture, and see if it makes sense.  Am I going where I want to go?  Am I doing what I want to do?  If the answers are “No,” then it’s time to rethink.  However, since I’m a mom, I’m very aware that life is full of tradeoffs.  I’d rather hang with my daughter than just about anything else, so I’m willing to get up early and do my writing while she’s at school.

Nancy Holder on “If you could have any super power, what would it be?”

I would be able to fall asleep in five minutes.
