I have a ton of favorite authors, but right now I have fangirl crushes on Neal Shusterman and E. Lockhart. Unwind was one of my favorite books last year, and I’m just finishing up Lockhart’s Dramarama which appeals to my Broadway musical geekiness. I so wish I had the musical chops, and could’ve gone to Drama camp!

Amanda Marrone on “Is it harder to write the first book as opposed to the second (or third, or fourth) or does it depend on the content of what you are writing?”
It was definitely harder the first time. I had to figure out the ins and outs of writing a novel. I can write much faster now that I have the mechanics down.
Amanda Marrone on “When you’re writing a book and making up characters, do you feel like you become that character, as well as that character becomes a part of you?”
I am definitely in my character’s head and looking out through his or her eyes. I hear conversations and see scenes even when I’m not at the computer. When I start a new story, I feel like I know some of the characters immediately, but there always one or two that are a little closed to me and it takes a bit to finally get into their heads.
Amanda Marrone on “What hobbies do you have?”
Obviously I love to read, but I also love reading about and watching insects—I have hissing cockroaches as pets. Yes, I know—weird. I actually thought about going back to school to become an entomologist at one point. Hmmm—does going to Broadway shows count as a hobby? I love hiking and miss living in New Hampshire with all those beautiful mountains to climb. I also like to draw. I originally wanted to write and illustrate picture books.
Amanda Marrone on “If you could have any super power, what would it be?”
I’d love to have the ability to transport myself to another place just by thinking it. My family and friends are scattered all over, and I have a thing about flying. Plus I’m very impatient! I used to hate long car rides. Now that books on CD are available they make the time fly by, but transporting myself would also be very ecologically friendly way to get around.
